Douro Branco

Our white wine is a blend of Malvasia Fina (beeswax notes) and Viosinho (a low yield, but high aromatic and fresh varietal).
Then you have the incredible Rabigato, famous for big structure and minerality and then Gouveio with its lovely citrus. A low
intervention wine, only the terroir informs the flavor here.

Wine Description

89 Points (2023 vintage review) – John Gilman, View From The Cellar

“The 2023 vintage of Douro Branco from Filipe Ferreira comes in this year at a svelte 12.5 percent octane. The wine is composed from a blend of thirty percent each of Malvasia Fina and Viosinho, twenty-five percent Gouveio and fifteen percent Rabigato. The vines are thirty-five years of age and the wine is fermented and raised in stainless steel tanks. The wine is a touch reductive when first opened, but quickly starts to offer up a complex bouquet of fresh pineapple, guava, stony soil tones, white flowers and citrus peel. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and complex, with a good core of fruit, sound framing acids and good length and grip on the well balanced finish. There is almost a touch of backend tannin here. Good juice. 2025-2035.”

90 Points – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, winemag.com

“Lightly mineral in texture and with a fine bite of acidity, this wine is tight and textured. It has an edge of perfume from the Malvasia in the blend and some touches of spice. Drink the wine from 2023.”

– Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, December 1, 2022.

The Douro wine region takes its name from the Douro River, flowing from its source in northcentral Spain (under the name
Duero) across northern Portugal to its outlet at Porto, on the Atlantic Coast. Known as the vinhateiro, this glorious winegrowing
region was the first in the world to have a formal demarcation (under the 1756 Portuguese charter protecting Port wine)

and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001. The Douro River valley vinhateiro is sheltered from Atlantic winds
by the Marão and Montemuro mountains and has a hot, continental climate with hot dry summers and cold winters. Terraced
vineyards line the steep, rugged riverbanks, subdivided into three subregions: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior.

This small, 20hectare property is classified by the IVDP (Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Porto), who gives this Quinta an
Arating for its choice terroir. Everything is hand harvested. All of the wines are footpressed in large granite lagares. This is a
distinctly Portuguese owned winery in Pinhao the heart of the Douro.
