Flori Langhe Nebbiolo

Hailing from the Langhe DOC, this hand-harvested Nebbiolo is fermented in steel tanks and aged for six months in Slavonian oak, enhancing its structure while preserving delicate aromatics. With a striking ruby-red hue and fragrant notes of fresh roses, raspberries, and herbs, it presents a vibrant, balanced palate of fine tannins and lively acidity—an expressive wine that promises excellent aging potential.

We were so happy to spend time with siblings Noemi and Michele Flori of our newest domaine in Piedmont. They braved our roadshow (with mostly French people!) and now we are really focused on launching these incredible wines in the US market.
After tasting with dozens of Barbaresco winemakers last year in Italy, we found that the new trend is for riper, softer wines with lots of French oak. That is not our style – we love the classic Nebbiolos of restraint, elegance, aged in neutral Slavonian casks – the Flori wines are in this classic style.
Barbaresco is rightly known as the Queen of Italian wines: regal, elegant, and sumptuous. The Flori family (@cantinaflori), have been growing grapes near Treiso, a mile east of Alba in the heart of the Langhe, for four generations. Only recently they started bottling their own wines.
Besides their flagship Barbaresco, we adore their other wines and carry all of them: Arneis, Dolcetto d’Alba, and Langhe Nebbiolo. The winery is certified under SQNPI, the National Quality System for Integrated Production, meaning that every stage of winemaking from vineyard to cellar meets or exceeds the established standards for sustainability, including maintaining biodiversity, promoting soil health, and minimizing pressure on aquifers.
These Barbaresco vines were planted between 1950 and 1970, and grow on a mix of marl and sand. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged for a year in large Slavonian oak barrels, imparting some complexity without overwhelming the nuances of this noble nebbiolo. The 2022 is a classic expression of Barbaresco, with the unmistakable (and irresistible) aroma of tar and rose petals. It’s a gorgeous purply red, tilting a bit toward garnet at the edges, with a sexy viscosity and confident grip. There’s a nimble acidity entwined with the tannins, making this superbly food-friendly juice.
We’d recommend pairing this with anything off of the grill, cream-sauced pasta (especially anything involving mushrooms), green pea risotto, or a tomato salad with the Arneis – The wines have a lot to offer right now, but will reward a few years of repose in your cellar. Cin cin!

Wine Description

Vintage notes:

2023:Langhe Nebbiolo 2023 stands out for its vibrant character and aromatic precision. Spring rains ensured healthy canopy growth, while the moderate summer allowed steady ripening. The grapes reached full maturity with restrained sugar levels, offering a well-balanced profile of red fruit, floral notes, and a refreshing finish that underscores Nebbiolo’s pure expression.

Cantina Flori was born from a genuine passion for viticulture passed down through four generations. The winery is located in the hills of Treiso, a small village in the province of Cuneo, and produces the traditional wines of the area: Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbaresco, Dolcetto d’Alba, and Langhe Arneis.

The cultivation of the vineyards has always been carried out with a deep respect for nature, using the best low-impact technologies to minimize environmental harm. They are also certified under the SQNPI (National Quality System of Integrated Production), a production method that ensures the quality of our products exceeds commercial standards.

The vinification process, which involves hand-harvesting and fermentation in steel tanks, preserves the pure expression of the fruit. Afterward, the wine undergoes a six-month aging period in large Slavonian oak barrels, which adds a layer of structure without overwhelming the delicate aromatics.

The wine displays a striking ruby red color with delicate orange hues. Its aromatic profile is fragrant and inviting, with notes of fresh roses, ripe raspberries, herbs, and earthy undertones. On the palate, it is poised and vibrant, with fine tannins and lively acidity that provide a refreshing balance. A beautiful example of Nebbiolo in its youth, with the potential to develop further with a bit of aging.
